More research on the QRN train for Barcoola

Hi All

As you well know, the QRN train is one of the ultra modern trains we are looking at modelling. Previously QRN had a small parcel of land in Forrestfield, google earth it, you will see the old terminal shoe horned between the Gemco and the locomotive depot. Recently QRN have transfered to a much larger purpose built intermodal terminal, situated directly west of Forrestfield loco, the terminal basicly takes up part of the area that used to be the NG marshalling yard. Its a single line dead end terminal which is not long enough to take a full length train. More on this later. Anyway on Saturday arvo, we noticed a PM job ready to jump from PNs Kewdale yard, One Ghan NR and two vanillas. We though what the hell might as well get a shot while we are here. Going back to the yard we noticed that the QRN train had been assembled and a Crew transport van was parked next to the relay van, looked like the Crew were getting ready to go. We perched ourselves on an over pass, and got a shot of 7PM2? departing Forrestfield. Attached are some shots of the power, LDP4 and CLP11 and an ex VR spirit car, now converted into a relay van.

The next week on the first day back at work, I noticed said train in the loop, and sure enough there was LDP4 and CLP11, waiting to get into the yard.

Enjoy

Stuff skulking around Forrestfield

Hi All

Attached are some shots around Forrestfield.

These days Forrestfield seems to be a repostitory for eastern states refuges, as the day we turned up.
An NJ From the Lincoln Division as found its new home in WA working the Albany Woodchip yo yo service. The NJ seems to have had more juicy mods, it never stops for that class.

1202, EX DE5, formaly BHP Whyalla long products division, still in the old laddle livery. This unit was the to be the NG shunter, but seems to have thrown in the towel.

Around the yard are a few 22 class (422 NSWR) units in varing states of decay. Kieran, recons they do ok for shunting and quick to load up when teamed up with a L class on a grain train, realy put their back into it.

I am told GM30 is still in the shops and not sure if it has been forsaken as a rebuild "too far".

The LZ is painted in a new scheme for a new Grain contract in NSW, using ex NG grain wagons.

thanks

WMGF built by Kieran's mate

Hi All

I know we have discussed this before attached are some shots of a WMGF built by a mate of Kieran's, again its a very old model, and only has a slight bow due to the levels are straight styrene. A part from that a very good representation of the prototype.

Still no cars......

Enjoy

AMGX's scratch built by Kieran's mate.

Hi All

Please see attached some scratchbuilt models of AN double deck car carriers, built from northeastern timber, these models have realy stood the test of time. Of course there are no Cars for Kieran's HO Scale era, so I feel you pain man, one day the penny will drop with manufactures, but I am sick of being subtle, they just don't get it!.

Anyway enjoy these two fine examples.

Thanks

Scott

Kieran's 22 class

Hi All

I visited Kieran this weekend, mostly due to his wedding to Robyne, and I guess to catch up. Our very best to you both, the wedding was spot on.

I had time to catch up with some other modellers and explore changes rail wise in Perth.

Kieran is a talented modeller and attached is some of his handy work. According to Keiran 2204 was the only 22 class to spend a couple of months in Perth prior to transfer to NT for work trains to joint the NAR to the CAR. Thus this model is of interest to NT as well as WA modellers. The work is pretty complete with the AC chopped into the side of the A end.

Most of you that know me, realise that my passion for AN, is not so focused as to ignore other regions. I have built a number of Pilbara locomotives and Westrail locomotives overtime, including a P class CM25-8 in S scale. I have a shunting layout design in mind and will share this at a later time. I know its a bit off topic but its my site and would like to share some of the Guys from the West, great talent. Many thanks to Kieran and Neil for letting photograph their handy work and enjoy their scratchbuilding talent.

I also spent some time with Les, and had a bit of time to discover a very modified Forrestfield yard. There are stacks of modelling propostions just begging to be modelled, but more on that later.

thanks

Scott
