Jon's first layout starts to take shape

Hi All

One of my first layout contract jobs, is for Jon, a long time friend, hard core railfan, and Barcoola - Alice Springs stalwart operator.

Jon wanted this layout up and running fairly quickly, so I volunteered the Barcoola fiddle yard.
we set up the fiddle yard on the decking, so we did a bit of 1 to 1 size layout modelling.
From this, we figured where things should be and made changes to the design in short time.

We set up, sections of 30mm foam and this made it easy to position the whole layout in one go.

After all the sizes were established, with the help of the triton work bench, we cut all the wood required for the job in one day.

The "kits" are all positioned ready for construction.

Some interesting projects from Glen's work bench

Hi All

Here is some of wagons that Glen has been working on.

A ultra modern RKYY tilt bed steel wagon, these have been spotted recently on the Darwin line.

For 1990 era Alice Springs Glen is working on this ATOL, just needs the tanks installed, from a Proto 1000 kit.
Nice work man, looks sweet.

From an Athearn this is a simple conversion to a CHBY, work in progress.

Sandown model railway exhibition 2014 part 3

Hi All

Some of the layouts at the exhibition.

There was this interesting road and tram exhibit, I had a chat to a guy that has installed radio control in his trucks, has got me thinking this could be done for Alice Springs, give that extra extra dimension of operations.  Especially since I have already got the Faller system, and he give me tips to change them over to radio and the surface mount LEDs, nice!

Some more of his work.

Victoria bridge layout, nice weathering guys..
The SARMA layout had some interesting AN era trains, including the IP with the wedgetail symbol and an AD car.

One of the short 099 lead ore jobs.

The IP with a DL equipped with sound.

The first AN era BG grain train of particular note.

Ettamogah
interesting shunting layout with what looks like a scratch built Vlocity set, gutsy job there.
N scale is coming along leaps and bounds.

Here is the latest from Aust-N-rail.
